If you were alive during the 70s, 80s, or 90s you may remember those wonderfully brightly coloured plastic streamers that we would be hanging up everywhere. They were very tacky but brought so much festive cheer. These paper streamers are a fun way to make your own version.
Make sure you follow my Christmas board on Pinterest for more ideas. Don’t forget to save the pin for later.
To make your own paper streamers you will need:
- Paper
- Scissors
- Coloured pens or paint
You need to have a square piece of paper to do this, so either use large origami paper or turn your A4 paper into a square. Do this by folding one corner of the paper to meet the opposite edge. Line up these two edges and crease the fold. This should make a triangle, now cut of the extra paper at the bottom.
Fold the triangle over again and then unfold it all.
Decorate your sheet paper.
Next fold your square back up into a triangle.
Draw lines from one short side to the other short side. These lines should be alternatively starting from each side, but shouldn’t quite reach the other side, otherwise you will simply end up with strips of paper.
Cut along each of these lines.
Carefully open the paper back up and pull up from the centre to create the paper streamer. To make a long line of them glue the centre of two together, then glue the outer part to the next. Keep repeating this until you have a long enough streamer.
Do they bring back any memories from your own childhood? I do miss the ones I used to have.
